Semi truck insurance
The tractor-trailer package, own authority or leased on.
Semi truck insuranceNon-trucking liability insurance covers a leased-on owner-operator for injury and property damage caused while the truck is being used for personal, non-business purposes, when the motor carrier's policy does not apply. Bobtail insurance is the older, narrower cousin that covers the tractor when it is driven without a trailer, whether or not you are under dispatch. Our agency writes both from a licensed office in Las Vegas.

This page is for leased-on owner-operators. If you run under your own authority, you need primary liability instead.
Bobtail covers the tractor without a trailer attached, on or off dispatch. Non-trucking liability covers the tractor when it is not being used for business, with or without a trailer. NTL is the broader personal-use form; bobtail is the narrower no-trailer form. Leases usually name one.
The carrier's policy applies under dispatch. Driving home, to the shop, or on a weekend is outside it. That gap is what NTL covers, and most leases make it mandatory.
No. NTL is liability to others. Damage to your own tractor is physical damage coverage, bought separately.
